The Florida on US Map shows where the State of Florida is located on the Map of the United States. Florida is displayed in red on the map, while the rest of the United States is displayed in yellow. The map also contains Geographic Information for the State of Florida as well as for the remainder of North America including for example Canada, Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico which border the United States.

Where is Florida Located in the United States?

Florida is a long, thin state in the Southeast of the US. Most of the state is surrounded by water. To the East is the Atlantic Ocean. To the West is the Gulf of Mexico. As well as the two neighboring states of Georgia to the North and Alabama to the Northwest of Florida, the state is also surrounded by water on three sides. In addition, Florida is near the Caribbean.

Where Is Florida Located on the US Map?

The Florida Peninsula runs down from the main land for a long way, dividing up parts of the Atlantic Ocean on the left and the Gulf of Mexico on the right. In the north west of Florida is the Florida Panhandle, which runs down the Gulf Coast of the United States until it reaches the border with Alabama.

If we are to measure from the north to the south of Florida, we would find that it extends from 24.4° N to 31.0° N latitude. If we are to measure from the west to the east of the state, we would find that it extends from 80.0° W to 87.6° W longitude. This includes all of the land in Florida, as well as all of the many islands, and a portion of the western Panhandle.

Florida shares two land borders with other states: Georgia in the North and Alabama in the Western part of the Florida Panhandle. The rest of the borders consist of water. The Eastern border of Florida is the Atlantic Ocean. The Western border is the Gulf of Mexico. The Straits of Florida separate Florida from Cuba in the South. The Florida Keys are a group of islands in the South of Southern Florida that extend out into the Straits of Florida.

Size and Geography of Florida

The state of Florida covers 71,400 square miles. The majority of that space is water covering 53,600 square miles of land and 17,800 square miles of water. This large amount of water space is made up of many coasts, bays, rivers, lakes, and wetlands, as well as many islands.

When geographically dividing up the state of Florida it can typically be grouped into three sections of land known as North Florida, Central Florida, and South Florida. Tallahassee is the state capital of Florida and it is located in the part of the state referred to as North Florida. Jacksonville is also located in the state of Florida and is also in the Northern section of the state. Orlando is the capitol of the state of the industry of travel and is found in the center of the state known as Central Florida. Tampa is a city in the central section of the state as well and is found in the Southern portion of the Central section of the state known as South Florida.

Off of the southern tip of the main land mass of Florida are a group of islands which extend into the warm waters of the Straits of Florida. These are the Florida Keys and one of the more well-known islands is Key West.

Florida’s Location Between the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico

Water surrounds much of the State of Florida, playing important roles in determining climate, economy, transportation, and environment. Surrounding Oceans, Gulf, and Caribbean Sea play significant roles in the natural environment, climate, economy, and in tourism of the State of Florida.

Weather across the State of Florida is generally classified as being a humid subtropical climate. It is for the most part, extremely warm to hot and extremely humid throughout the entire summer. Traveling southward throughout the State will generally reveal an even more tropical-like weather pattern. The southern tip of the State is especially susceptible to the effects of the strongest tropical systems like hurricanes and tropical storms, which travel through the Atlantic during the Atlantic hurricane season.

Why Is Florida’s Location Important?

Because of its location in the southeastern corner of the United States, Florida is home to a large number of ports and is a location for many international companies. As a popular tourist destination, Florida is also closely connected with the countries of Latin America as well as the Caribbean.

Some of the world’s most unique environments exist in Florida. These include the Everglades, the Florida Keys, the beaches and the coastal wetlands. Other natural resources in the state include the freshwater springs, the barrier islands, the mangrove forests and the coral reefs.
