Major Cities

In the nation’s identity, economy and cultural development, cities in the United States are central. According to the most recent census and estimates there are over 19,500 incorporated cities, towns and villages across the country. These urban areas are of widely varying population and size, historical significance, and economic output. Globally recognized metropolitan centers to small towns with regional influence, U.S. cities reflect the country’s geographic diversity and economic dynamism.

New York City

New York is the most populous city in the United States, having more than 8.3 million people in the 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. It is referred to as a global financial, media, cultural and diplomatic centre. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are located at Wall Street and thus the city is an important economic center. The city is also the home of the United Nations and has its iconic landmarks including Times Square, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. This is because more than 800 languages are spoken in New York City and it is thus one of the most linguistically diverse areas in the world.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is situated in the southern region of California and is the second most populated city in the United States of America with almost four million people. Hollywood is the American entertainment industry capital and numerous film and television studios.
