Known as one of the biggest archeological spots and urban areas of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is situated in the archeological area of the Petén Basin, which is now situated in northern Guatemala. Located in the El Petén department, this spot is part of Tikal National Park of Guatemala and it was accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
