They span for about 9 miles (14 km). At their most southern edge, they rise 390 feet (120 metres) above the level of Atlantic Ocean at Head of Hag, and, 5 miles (8 km) to the north, they extend their maximum elevation of 702 feet (214 metres) just north of Tower of O'Brien, a round shaped stone tower close the centre-point of the cliffs, constructed by Sir Cornelius O'Brien in 1835, then advance at lower heights. The alongside settlements are the towns / villages of Liscannor 4 miles (6 km) to the south, and Doolin 4 miles (7 km) to the north.
