Explore the map to locate Stonehenge on world map, Stonehenge is a ancient monument situated on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire County, England, 3 km (2 miles) west of Amesbury. It contains of an outer ring of perpendicular sarsen standing stones, each approx. 4 meter (13 feet) high, 7 feet (2.1 meter) wide, and weighing around twenty five tons, capped by bridging horizontal lintel stones. There is a ring of smaller bluestones inside. Inside these, there are free standing trilithons, 2 heavier vertical sarsens connected by one lintel. The complete monument, now ruinous, is arranged towards the sunrise on solstice in the summer. These stones are arranged within earthworks in the center of the densest complex of Neolithic & Bronze Age masterpiece in England, consisting many hundred burial mounds (tumuli).
